Stayed in a nice airbnb 2 miles from downtown Kennebunkport (around $160/night). Ogunquit was nice use Uber to get around the town after parking your car and doing the nature walk- easier and cheaper than the trolley. Literally just drove back from our Maine trip.įirst 4 nights stayed in Kennebunkport went on a 2-3 hour lobster cruise, walked around town, went to Ogunquit and some nature walks. We had a place right across from our motel and it was so, so good and BYOB too. Go to the little lobster pounds on the outskirts as its so much cheaper. If you like lobster or lobstah as they call it. With all the travel 2 nights just wasn't enough, especially Bar Harbor. If we did it again, we would have added an extra night at each location, except maybe Burlington. It was such a unique trip and it's crazy, but the thing I'll never forget was waking in the middle of the night and getting a glass of water from the sink when we were in Maine. It was so cool to see a basic neighborhood on an island with views of downtown Portland. We checked out downtown Portland one day and we spent a day on Peaks Island, which I highly recommend. We could have stayed an extra 2-3 nights here.įrom Bar Harbor, we drove back down the Portland and stayed 2 nights here before we flew home. We checked out the Harbor and Acadia NP which was truly AMAZING. We actually stayed in Trenton, ME at a small motel just outside of Bar Harbor. NH is super underrated.įrom NH, we drove to Bar Harbor, ME. We checked out the Flume Gorge, Crawford Notch, drove the Kancamagus Highway, and rode the Cog Railway to the summit of Mount Washington. ![]() We stayed in some little motel (Moose Lodge maybe, can't remember, lol) as you're unlikely to find chains here. We did some basic sightseeing and took in some local eats and what not.įrom Burlington, we drove to Gorham, NH which is just on the outskirts of the White Mountain National Forest close to Mount Washington. Burlington was neat as it's a hipster college town and was unique to our trip. Since we had a rental we were okay staying 15 mins outside of the the center which saved money (actually I used points for these two nights). ![]() Once we touched down in Portland we got lunch and drove directly to Burlington, VT and stayed 2 nights there. I think our longest car trip was the trek from Portland to Burlington at about 4 hours. We did all of our travel during the kids nap time and it worked out pretty well. We made sure to get unlimited miles because we drove a lot. We stayed a total of 8 nights and rented a car once we arrived in Portland using Priceline which came out to around $270. We flew southwest to Portland with a connecting flight in Baltimore IIRC. At the time we had two small children (now we have 3) at almost 3 yo and 6 months. Published by BMJ.We went to Maine from the Western Pittsburgh area two summers ago. Identification of the predictive factors for WTD and HDI may contribute to their prevention and management. An independent predictive factor for HDI was the Demoralisation Scale subsection 'patients' distress and coping abilities' (OR=1.47 95% CI 1.04 to 2.08 p=0.028), while having religious beliefs was a protective factor (OR=0.13 95% CI0.17 to 0.97 p=0.047).ĭemoralisation was found to be the only common triggering factor for WTD and HDI, although experiences share certain features. The independent factors predictive of WTD were (1) knowledge of approximate prognosis (OR=4.78 95% CI 1.20 to 10.8 p=0.001) (2) symptom burden (OR=1.05 95% CI 1.00 to 1.09 p=0.038) and (3) the Demoralisation Scale subsection 'lack of meaning and purpose in life' (OR=1.61 95% CI 1.30 to 1.99 p=0.000). ![]() The prevalence of WTD in the sample was 18%, with 8 out of 36 patients reporting HDI. The analysis used univariate and multivariate logistic regression. Sociodemographic data and data related to symptom burden (Edmonton Symptom Assessment System-Revised), depressive and anxious symptoms (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale), demoralisation (Spanish version of the Demoralisation Scale), perceived loss of dignity (Patient Dignity Inventory) and WTD (Assessing Frequency and Extent of Desire to Die) were collected. This is a subanalysis of a larger cross-sectional study conducted on patients experiencing advanced illness (N=201). The aim of this study is to identify the predictive factors for WTD and hastening death intention (HDI) in Spanish patients with advanced illness. The wish to die (WTD) is a complex experience sometimes accompanied by intention to hasten death. ![]()
